Resolution & Framerate Benchmarks

Platform compression will always reduce your video quality from what you exported. To ensure your content looks sharp after upload, you need to export at higher quality than the platform minimum. This guide covers the exact targets.

Resolution & Framerate Requirements

PropertyMinimumRecommendedBest
Resolution720×1280 (720p)1080×1920 (1080p)2160×3840 (4K)
Framerate24 fps30 fps60 fps
Aspect Ratio9:16 (vertical)9:16 (vertical)9:16 (vertical)

For most campaign content, 1080p at 30fps is the sweet spot — it looks sharp on all devices, uploads quickly, and doesn't bloat file sizes.

Bitrate Targets

Bitrate controls how much data is used per second of video. Higher bitrate = better quality but larger files.

ResolutionFramerateTarget BitrateMax File Size (60s)
720p24 fps5 Mbps~37 MB
720p30 fps6 Mbps~45 MB
1080p30 fps10 Mbps~75 MB
1080p60 fps16 Mbps~120 MB
4K30 fps35 Mbps~262 MB
4K60 fps50 Mbps~375 MB
Export Higher Than Minimum
Both TikTok and Instagram re-encode your video after upload, which always reduces quality. Exporting at 1080p 10 Mbps ensures the re-encoded result still looks clean. Exporting at exactly 720p minimum means the final result may look soft or blocky.

Codec Recommendations

CodecCompatibilityQualityNotes
H.264 (AVC)Universal — all platforms, all devicesGoodThe safe default. Use this unless you have a specific reason not to.
H.265 (HEVC)Supported on newer devices and platformsBetter at same bitrateSmaller files at equivalent quality. Use if your editing app supports it.
ProResProfessional — large filesExcellentOverkill for social. Only use as an intermediate editing format, not for upload.

H.264 in an MP4 container is the universal standard. When in doubt, export H.264 MP4 and you'll have zero compatibility issues on any platform.

How Platform Compression Affects Quality

When you upload a video, both TikTok and Instagram re-encode it to their own specs:

  • TikTok re-encodes to approximately 4–6 Mbps at 1080p. Exporting at 10 Mbps gives the encoder more data to work with, resulting in a cleaner final product.
  • Instagram re-encodes Reels to approximately 3.5–5 Mbps. Instagram's compression is generally more aggressive than TikTok's.
  • Fast motion and fine details (e.g., text, patterns, confetti) suffer the most from re-encoding. If your content has these, export at the highest reasonable bitrate.
  • Static or slow-moving content compresses well. Product review videos with a fixed camera hold up better than fast-paced edits.

Auto-Rejection Triggers

Content will be automatically flagged or rejected during review for:

  • Sub-720p resolution: Any dimension below 720×1280 is rejected outright.
  • Visible compression artifacts: Blocky, pixelated footage — usually from exporting at very low bitrate or re-uploading a previously compressed video.
  • Framerate below 24 fps: Choppy footage that looks like a slideshow. Usually caused by screen recordings or very old devices.
  • Wrong aspect ratio: Horizontal (16:9) video submitted for a vertical (9:16) campaign. Letterboxed video with large black bars is also flagged.
  • Upscaled footage: 480p video stretched to 1080p. The system and reviewers can detect artificial upscaling.
Don't Re-Upload Compressed Video
Never download a video from TikTok or Instagram and re-upload it. Each re-upload adds another round of compression, resulting in visibly degraded quality. Always export from your original project file.
